Frequently asked questions
Why use beef tallow on my skin?
Beef tallow is biologically compatible with our skin’s natural oils (sebum). Unlike plant oils, it shares a similar molecular structure to human skin, allowing it to absorb deeply rather than sitting on the surface. It is naturally packed with Vitamins A, D, E, and K, plus anti-inflammatory CLA, making it a powerhouse for cellular repair.
Does the balm smell like... beef?
Not at all. Through our traditional rendering and purifying process at the butchery, we remove all impurities. The result is a clean, neutral base. Our Unscented balm has a faint, natural aroma of raw honey and beeswax, while our Bergamot and Lavender versions carry the bright, herbal scents of pure essential oils.
Is it safe for sensitive skin or eczema?
Yes — in fact, that’s where it truly shines. We recommend 'The Pure Heritage' (Unscented) for those with highly reactive skin, eczema, or psoriasis. It’s known to ease irritation caused by these conditions and reduce associated flakiness. The natural fats and vitamin E help repair the skin barrier and soothe inflammation, without the sting of synthetic chemicals or fragrances.
Will it leave my skin feeling greasy?
Because tallow mimics your skin’s natural oils, it absorbs remarkably well. If your skin feels greasy, you are likely using too much! Our balms are 100% active with zero water or fillers. A pea-sized amount is usually enough for your entire face and neck.
Can I use it on my face?
Absolutely. Tallow is non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores when applied correctly to damp skin. It’s an incredible daily moisturiser, night cream, and even an eye balm.
Where are your ingredients sourced?
We believe in the Circular Economy. Our grass-fed tallow comes directly from our family butchery, D.T. Waller & Sons, in Ledbury. Our raw honey and beeswax are sourced from local Herefordshire beekeepers. We keep our footprint small and our quality "Gold Standard."
Is it safe for babies?
Yes. Our Pure Heritage (Unscented) is a favourite for parents. With only five natural ingredients and zero synthetics, it’s perfect for nappy rash, cradle cap, or dry patches on delicate newborn skin.
How long does one jar last?
Because our formula contains zero water (most high-street creams are 70% water), a little goes a long way. If used daily on the face, a standard jar typically lasts 2 to 3 months.
What is the shelf life of the balm?
Our balms are naturally preserved by the stability of the tallow, beeswax, and added Vitamin E. We recommend using your balm within 6 months of opening. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to maintain the integrity of the natural fats.
Why is "Circular Economy" important to Wallers’?
For 49 years, we’ve respected the animal and the land. In the past, high-quality suet was often undervalued. By repurposing it into premium skincare, we ensure that nothing goes to waste. It’s our way of honouring the animal's life and providing you with the most honest, effective nutrition possible.
